Blue apatite is a mineral that belongs to the phosphate family and is named after the Greek word “apatein,” which means “to deceive.”  It was given its name by the German geologist, Abraham Gottlob Werner because it was often confused with other minerals because of its appearance. It’s actually a mineral that makes up the teeth and bones of vertebrate names.

This crystal ranges from a transparent blue to green and is often mistaken for aquamarine, tourmaline, olivine, periodot or topaz.  It’s found throughout the world, mainly Brazil and Mexico, and is believed to help stimulate creativity and communication while promoting mental clarity.

Hardness:  It has a hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, which means it’s relatively soft and can be scratched by harder materials.

Luster:  This crystal will have a vitreous, or glassy-like luster, which means it reflects light like glass.

Structure:  Apatite will have a hexagonal crystal structure and forms hexagonal prismatic crystals.  These are usually elongated and will have flat/pyramidal terminations.

Transparency:  Apatite is usually transparent to translucent, which means light can pass through, however, objects cannot be seen clearly through it.

Apatite has a variety of uses due to both its appearance and metaphysical properties.  Here’s what it’s commonly used for:

Dental:  This is a mineral that’s essential for your bone and teeth health.  It’s used to strengthen teeth and even treat tooth decay and other tooth issues.
